July-September 2022 Missions Update

Calvary greetings to you in Jesus' name. A happy new month, and welcome to the ember months. Thank you so much for your prayers, financial support, and encouraging words throughout the period under review. Below is the report of what God is doing as a result of your partnership:

CONVERSION AND DISCIPLESHIP

Despite the heavy rainfall across the mission fields, the missionaries and their converts continued to go

out for door-to-door evangelism, and several persons surrendered their lives to Christ. God blessed us with converts from Muslim and chronic traditionalist backgrounds. One of the recent converts was a native doctor. Sadly, he died shortly after his conversion. Please, keep praying for all the converts until Christ is formed in them and pray for divine protection because some of them are targets of attack.

Discipleship efforts are also going on using both one-on-one and group levels. Some of the converts now attend church services. At Adamawa State, our missionaries, in collaboration with other Christian leaders, organized a discipleship-based conference for the Fulanis. The meeting, held at Ganye, brought together almost 100 indigenous Fulanis, where they prayed and studied God's word together.

 PIONEER CHURCH BUILDING PROJECT

New Beru Church

God blessed us with a new church building at Beru in Bauchi State, where no church ever existed. God used an individual to provide all the funds ($5000) to build the church from foundation to finishing. We had issues with the Muslims after the foundation was laid. They complained that the church was too close to their mosque. To God be the glory, the villagers resolved the issue, and they provided land elsewhere, where we relocated the church and laid a new foundation.

Earlier, God used the same individual to build a church at Kubule and another at Sanga. He promised to build another church among unreached people next year. Kindly join us in praying for God's blessings and protection for him and his family. They have been great blessings and encouragement in many ways to the work.

God also raised other individuals to build roofs in two villages in the Benin Republic, where the people worshipped under the tree.

At first, God used a brother and his friend to provide funds for the first roof, and last month, God used another partner, a student in Canada who singlehandedly built the second roof.

Our missionary residence at Beru field has no buildings to rent in the community.  He currently squats with a convert. We have started building a two-bedroom flat, but for lack of funds, we stopped close to the lintel level. We will need approximately two million Naira to complete the building. Pray with us for God to provide the required funds for the project.

ORPHANS / VULNERABLE/MISSIONARY KIDS

MK Racheal Yunusa

The Home of Grace(HOG), a ministry to orphans and vulnerable kids, is getting tangible results. The improvement recorded is quite encouraging compared to the past. Four of our kids that sat for West Africa School Certificate (WASC) examination had seven credits each, including mathematics, that had remained their challenge. Several other children came first, second and third in their classes. We have volunteers from among the university students affected by the ASUU strike helping the kids with their studies. Some enrolled in tailoring apprenticeships and others in catering school.

The holiday is almost over. The school fees are staring at us, N60, 000 of the last term is still outstanding, and this new term's fees are staggering. Almost all of them are asking for new uniforms and track suites. The price of foodstuffs is staggering, yet we are compelled to continue with this aspect of the ministry despite the massive cost because we are convinced that God wants us to do so. We covet your prayers for God's provision.

MISSIONS TRAINING

Our school of Cross-Cultural Missions continued to press on in the task of processing the needed laborers for the needy mission field. On June 24, 2022, seventeen students were posted to the mission fields in Nigeria and beyond for their internship training. They returned on August 24, 2022, rejoicing with testimonies of the mighty things God did on the field.

We are grateful to our partners who provided some students with scholarships. We still have some students who need help. Also, for those who benefitted from the scholarship grants, the country's economy has bastardized the currency so much that our budget could no longer sustain us. We have entirely run out of foodstuffs. Please pray along with us for divine intervention. We have seven more months to complete the session; even though we attempt to rush it, it will not work. We must also not close down the training department because doing so will mean the fountain of supplies for the needed missionaries will be shut down. Please pray along!

AMLI /STAFF DEVELOPMENT

The challenge of insecurity in Nigeria and surrounding African countries where our missionaries are laboring is increasing daily. Kidnappers and bandits' dens have multiplied. We have continued to pray but feel we should develop the capacity of our missionaries and other missionaries who relate with us to cope. This may not eliminate the risk but will go a long way to encourage them.

Our Advanced Mission leadership institutes (AMLI) 2022 session will focus primarily on security and disaster preparedness. It is scheduled for October 1-10, 2022. The training will cost each participant N60,000. In addition, we will provide transport fares for some of our missionaries from their mission fields and back. Pray for journey mercies as well as the fund.

SECURITY CHALLENGES

 A former kidnapped
victim, Adamu Sale, and his
field leader

A young man was killed at one of our mission fields for raping a girl. There is tension in that field now because of the fear of retaliation from the Fulanis. Please pray for divine intervention; usually, such retaliation claims several lives. Our diaspora mission was suspended because of a similar attack. Persons suspected to be Fulani kidnapped some indigenous persons. The vigilantes pursued them and rescued the kidnap victims. In the process, some of the vigilantes and kidnappers were also killed. There is fear everywhere that the Fulanis will retaliate for the killing because the kidnappers killed are of that descent.

Our missionaries working among this diaspora are from the North and could be easily mistaken for kidnappers, so we temporarily withdrew them. Please uphold us in prayers for peace and wisdom.

 APPRECIATION

Thank you so much for all you have done to sustain the work. We appreciate all your sacrifices. We are encouraged by the results we are also seeing. There are many classified testimonies of what God is doing that we cannot share in the media for security reasons.

PRAYER NEEDS:

  • v  Pray for the missionaries: For protections against kidnappers/bandits and more of God’s grace to carry on with the great commission.
  • v  Pray for the converts: That God will keep them against kidnappers/bandits and cause them to grow both physically and spiritually.
  • v  Pray for financial flow: Ongoing projects, mission training, missionaries' upkeep, and funds for the orphans and vulnerable kids
  • v  Pray for our partners: That God who gives seed to the sower will continually bless them.

Yours until the task is completed

Dr. Andrew Abah
