February 2013 Missions’ Update

Greetings in Jesus name. The year 2013 is no longer new. We are grateful to God for enabling us move into the second month of the year. The past one month was a very busy one. God granted us divine speed and we were able to get many things accomplished to the glory of God. Again, this speed cannot be divorced from your sacrificial input for which we are extremely grateful.

The bulk of our concentration last month was on our local fields in Nigeria. We started with our church hall at Dir field that had fallen apart three times. We were able to rebuild the fallen part, re-roof it as well as plaster the outer wall to avoid it been wash away. The two bedrooms flat built for the missionary on the field is at the point of completion. We are at the point of plastering and making progress. We will still need fund to complete the plastering and flooring.

Our youth team from Furaka as well as the converts on the field are joining hands in the work thus reducing the financial cost to materials and skilled manpower. The Dirawa people located in the heart of the Bayara forest at the foot of Dir Mountain are filled with great joy seeing the physical development.

New boxer motorcycle for Kamberi field
At the Kamberi field, we were able to buy a brand new boxer model motorcycle for the missionary couple, Sunday & Faith Musa to aid his movement around the vast mission stations under his leadership. He currently has over 20 children living with him for field-base Home of Grace. Most of the children are from Muslim dominated Kebbi state in Nigeria. The house they stay in is collapsing so the kids currently sleep in the church hall. Moved by the plight, we commenced the building of a two bedroom flat on the field. We are tired of receiving report of collapsed building so we have to spend much on excavation, blending and stone foundation of the building. We have also procured 1000 cement blocks to start with.  We need more fund to speedy up the project.
At Kuble, the church has been rebuilt with mud block. The missionary couple resident there, Barnabas and Fatima  Haruna are appealing for N40000 to buy cement and plaster the church as well as buy some sheets of zinc to complete an extension. Rahila and Yohanna Musa from Lambu Mission Station made similar appeal.  On a general note, God is adding to the number of the converts. Water baptism was also held recently. Discipleship is going on daily and a recent discipleship program held jointly for the converts from Kamberis and Dukawas was a huge success. Many were saved and delivered.  At the Dukawa front, God is at work. Nuhu and Sabatu Karanbana are excited at the rate the people are coming to the Lord after initial resistance. They are working on another church building.  Their location at Tugan Ali is very remote with no vehicle plying the road. Bringing the converts out for medical attention, going to the market and visiting the converts living far away has been a great challenge. He has been appealing for N115,000 to get a brand new motorcycle but since the sum is not forthcoming, we got him a fairly used one recently.

At Niger Republic, we completed work on our Bankoula Mission House. We also completed the renovation of the Ahole Missions House. We are in the process of collecting the right and certificate of occupancy for the land and fund have been released to the Niger Republic Country Director, Liman Danwuya for that purpose. Our initial certificate of incorporation is regional. We are in the process of nationalising it. Also fund have been released for that purpose.
HOG Kids
At Furaka, God has been very faithful to us. All the school fees for the Home of Grace kids have been fully paid. All examination fees are also fully paid. We have purchased some foodstuff that will last the kids for sometime but still not adequate because of the increasing number of persons. The Christmas and New Year were really moments of celebration for the kids as they were thoroughly showered with gifts of all kinds especially clothes. Comfort Boubacar and Blessing Garba also celebrated their birthdays. Ayuba Ajikovi’s result was released. He graduated with a second class lower division in Economics. We continue to covet your prayers for them especially for the adolescents. We need full time caregivers who will assist with both spiritual and academics of the kids.

God opened door for mission mobilisation on several fronts. The first one was the Labourers Retreat at Kogi State. The theme was Go Ye. The program that was powered by Emmanuel Ibrahim’s Ministry brought together hundreds of youths. At the end of the retreat, no fewer than 100persons responded to the call for missionary service. The next one was the Calvary Bible Church School of Missions. It was one of the biggest open-doors we ever had in Lagos. The response to mission in that church was mind-blowing! The Senior Pastor, Rev. Olumide Emmanuel, who himself is mission minded joined in stirring the congregation to give financially and get involve physically. No fewer than 14persons volunteered for short term mission work and we are already in touch via email, sms and phone calls. We are grateful to the entire leadership team of the church as well as the members for their support.

Mama Kasuwa: Gone to glory
The old woman, Mama Kasuwa whom we built a house for at Aiona transited to glory last month. The building project dragged for a long time because of the rain that destroyed the block moulded earlier. We are grateful to all who put smile on her face while on earth and to all who planned to do more for her before her exit. There is no doubt that God of heaven will reward you richly. Also on a sad note, Papa Leon Merwe passed on to glory last month. We praise God for the life spent for God. He and Mama Melanie have been great encouragement to our work and us since July 1997. We covet your prayers for Mama who also lost her mother about the same time. Also, one of key partners Mr. Ugochukwu Obi based at Enugu passed on to glory earlier but the news did not get to us on time. Mr. Obi and his family adopted our Bolu fields many years ago and have made selfless input to the work before his call to glory.

We are working on the 18th African Missions Summit (AMS 2013) now. It is scheduled for March 13-17, 2013 at our headquarters in Jos, Nigeria. One of the special features of this year’s summit is the lunch of the Arabian Peninsula Consultation (APC) partnership. We will be hosting the African leader of the APC along with his team and two days of the summit will be dedicated to the consultation. We covet your prayers for visa processes for all our international delegates, funds for all the logistics and feeding, wisdom, grace and fresh unction. Turnout for the last three summit have been adversely affected by the crises in and around Jos. We are glad that the crises are over and are now history. Pray that God will prompt quality delegations to attend in good number this year.

Finally, we are grateful to you beyond measure for your partnership with us over the years. We certainly know that God have used you to move the work forward conspicuously and consistently pray that God will richly bless you. Do kindly continue to pray for divine protection for our team members, provision for our missionaries/their family upkeep, fund for our ongoing projects on the various fields, motorcycles for the remaining missionaries toiling in the remotest jungle without access to commercial vehicle.

His bondservant,

Andrew Abah
